Artist | Designer | Death Doula
Mala (she/they)
Mala, also known as Trishia Frulla (b. 1989), is an Ilokana, queer artist and death doula currently residing on Lenapehoking (Brooklyn, NY) and Luiseño Territory (Escondido, CA).
Her work manifests as an ink and fiber-embodied exchange, deeply informed by her relationship to trauma and healing. This approach is guided by a deep trust in her ancestral beliefs, alongside her Going with Grace End of Life Training and the communities she builds with.
Mala believes that true healing comes from tending to both the challenging and the effortless parts of life with curiosity, compassion, and in relation with others. She has given and received support from organizations like Ulirat Gatherings, Community Deathcare Digest, School of Liberating Education, Art.Coop, and Artists Against Apartheid, as well as various local activist spaces and Filipinx collectives.
Currently, Mala is cultivating her creative studio, HypoFutures—where she envisions a world where all people can play, grieve, and connect to their ancestral practices in order to remember new pathways toward collective solidarity & liberation for all.
